Milestones
In 1965, at the height of Japan's economic boom, Masatake Shiga
founded Shiga International Patent Office. As the Japanese industry and
economy developed, the protection of intellectual property rights became vitally
important to the success of Japanese companies. Along with this economic
growth, the number of patent applications filed at the JPO has doubled since
1965, and Shiga International Patent Office has grown accordingly and continues
to play a major role in the protection of intellectual property rights.
