Shiga International Patent Office was founded in 1965 by Masatake Shiga, and through diligence and a commitment to providing superior service, has grown into one of the leading patent firms in Japan, with a staff exceeding 460.

As cross-border economic activities continue to expand, the importance of protecting intellectual property rights in consideration of national policy or business management has been increasing worldwide.  The strategic application of intellectual property rights not only by IP departments but also by top managers will affect a company's business performance.  Differences in IP protection systems reflect each country's economic activity.  There are often both major and minor changes to the patent and trademark laws in Japan in response to domestic or international circumstances.  In addition, international cooperation in the intellectual property field has been encouraged by economic globalization.  The patent prosecution highway now connects major nations including the US, the UK, Korea, and Japan.

In order to respond flexibly to this rapidly changing environment, we are continuously enhancing our in-house seminars and programs to further improve our skills.  At the same time, such programs give us an opportunity to strengthen our teamwork.  We strive to promptly provide the highest quality intellectual property and legal services to meet our clients' needs.  Furthermore, we make every effort to enable our clients to fully exercise their intellectual property rights through our well-established deadline control system, prompt responses, and accurate and intelligible communication.

Our firm has a highly organized and coordinated structure, and employs technical experts proficient in a wide range of fields of technology and in Japanese and foreign intellectual property law.  We also have technical experts from China, Korea, and English-speaking countries and are able to work as a truly international team to meet every client's request.

Our modern office is conveniently located in the GranTokyo South Tower building which is directly connected to Tokyo Station, close to the Japanese Patent Office and the economic center of Japan, and accessible through major transportation routes.  From this base, we can provide our domestic and international clients with the highest quality services, from acquisition to enforcement of intellectual property rights.
