In-House Patent
Translators
Shiga International Patent Office is currently recruiting in-house patent translators. This is a full-time, long-term, contract
position. On-the-job training is available for qualified individuals with the
opportunity to learn about patent law. Contracts are renewable. Visa
sponsorship is available.
Applicants must be native English speakers. A Bachelor of Science degree or
higher in science or engineering is essential. Experience in the patent field
and/or technical translating is highly desirable. Intermediate to advanced
Japanese language ability is required.
Primary duties involve translating patent related documents from Japanese to
English. These documents include official communications from the Japanese
Patent Office, comment letters in response to such communications, abstracts,
technical opinions, as well as other intellectual property related material
(trademarks, designs, licensing, litigation, etc.) and general correspondence.
Responsibilities would also include proofreading and rewriting/editing such
documents prepared by our Japanese staff. Both the translating and proofreading
work require a high level of technical knowledge and attention to detail. There
may also be the opportunity to assist and interpret at meetings with clients.
