Dr. Akai specializes in condensed matter physics, nanoscience, and nanotechnology, in particular, carbon nanotubes. He has conducted research on the detailed electronic and geometric structure of carbon nanotubes, applications of carbon nanotubes for fuel cells, and design of new materials. In 2007, he received the Tejima Doctoral Dissertation Award.
