Mr. Funayama has been involved in the prosecution of both domestic and foreign
patent applications. He now works extensively on the preparation of opinions and
trials for invalidation as well as infringement litigation. He is also qualified
to represent parties in court in IP infringement litigation. Mr. Funayama
specializes in telecommunications, computers, semiconductors, optics, automatic
control systems, and medical equipment. He was an examiner of the Patent
Attorney Examinations in 1985 and 1986. From 1989 to 1998, he presented lectures
on international intellectual property issues for the Japan Intellectual
Property Association and was presented with an award in May 2000 in recognition
of his contributions. In 2002, Mr. Funayama was decorated by the Japanese
Government for his work in intellectual property.
